Fandom: Prince of Tennis
Characters: Seigaku regulars
Length/Type: One-shot (approx. 1000 words), Gen, Drama

Summary: Together the Seigaku tennis team lived over five hundred years.

Quite different from the usual Prince of Tennis fics out there, this one is a collection of short snippets on how each of the Seigaku regulars died. All of them are impacting in their own way - some quite sad, others play off of each other. What I love about it is also how a lot of these snippets actually tell a larger story without ever coming right out to say it clearly - but it leaves you thinking about it even after you're done reading. It's one of those stories that felt sadder in hindsight than while reading, I think. ;_;

Fandom: Naruto
Characters: Hatake Kakashi, Sarutobi Asuma, Yuuhi Kurenai, Team 7, Team 10, Team 8
Length/Type: One-shot (approx. 2000 words), Humor/Crack

Summary: Kakashi takes a moment to wrap his mind around equating Ino's chest with enemy shinobi while Asuma begins beating his head against the table and groaning about how he didn't sign up for this. Rated for language and the general horror that is puberty

I generally don't come across many memorable Naruto funny-fics, but this one stuck. Aside from the sheer crack of various genin going through puberty and how their jounin-sensei are dealing with it (or not quite dealing in this case), what truly makes this so funny is the way the author describes the whole ordeal. Her choice of words and the metaphors she uses to get the point across is so vividly hilarious - it's a must read if only for some of the very priceless lines within.

Length/Type: One-shot (approx. 1300 words), Crossover, Crack

Summary: In the event of finding fictional characters from popular children’s fantasy novels in your team locker room, Kaidoh decides, not knowing that you could speak a different language kinda sucks.

All I need to say is Kaidou goes "Fshuu" and Harry understands, because, well, it's kinda parseltongue, isn't it? Except Kaidou, poor guy, doesn't realize at all what he's been saying. Hilarity ensues. Best crossover crack in the world. XD

Characters: Ooishi/Kikumaru
Length/Type: One-shot (approx. 1200 words)

Summary: Eiji doesn't have Oishi's patience.

This particular fic uses a pretty common GP plot-device, but what makes it stand out for me is the way the author approaches the characterization. It isn't a long piece by any means, but it manages to touch upon some very essential aspect of GP and the roles Ooishi and Kikumaru have in each other's lives. I especially like their reactions to each other, as well as their interaction with each other.

Truth is - I love Golden Pair, but for various reasons, I don't often find myself being satisfied with a lot of GP fics I come across - which is likely due to the fact that I seem to be in the minority as to how I view GP, and by extension, Kikumaru and Ooishi as individuals. The author herself states "This is how I see Eiji - there is no weepy uke here." - and, well, I guess what I'm trying to say is, I quite like her Eiji (and her Ooishi too).

Fandom: Hikaru no Go
Characters: Akira/Hikaru
Length/Type: One-shot (approx. 1500 words), Humor, Romance

Summary: They say some people view the world from a stain-glassed window. Touya views it from the perspective of a goban. So when his territory is threatened, he attacks.

I love fics that leave me grinning and satisfied by the end of it, and this is one of them. :) Go puns with a hilarious use of Go terms to describe Akira's feelings towards Hikaru - a bit crack-ish and so very fitting in that geeky Akira way.

Do note that the author includes a list of Go terms with their definitions at the top of the fic, and unless you know the game well, you're likely going to need to refer to the list often. It could be annoying for some, but give it a try - I think it actually has its own charms, a bit like reading the fic in Akira-Hikaru code and I was privy to its tickling secrets because I had the answer sheet. :D

Fandom: Prince of Tennis
Characters: Choutarou's father, Ootori Choutarou, Shishido/Ootori, Hyotei regulars
Length/Type: One-shot (approx. 4700 words), 2nd person POV

Summary: Ootori Choutarou, as seen through the eyes of his father.

Reccing a Hikago father's POV fic yesterday reminded me that this one needed to be added here ASAP. Bunseki is written from Choutarou's dad's point of view but uses the 2nd person narrative to do this (and the author uses it very well indeed). The narrative gives the story an intimate quality that I can't explain. The voice, the flow, the different things that happen - it's like you're right up there with them, with Choutarou's father, seeing everything he sees - and man, what a great eye he has.

There's more than just Choutarou here though - there's also Hyotei, the regulars, and Shishido... and Choutarou and Shishido, together. It seems like such a simple, quiet observational piece, but there's also something about it that resonates with my inner fangirl, the kind that reminds me, "This is why you ship them."

Length/Type: One-shot (approx. 2000 words), Gen

Author's Summary: Hikaru's father, on the subject of his son.

Throughout watching/reading Hikago, I had always wondered what Hikaru's parents thought about what their son was doing, so discovering this fic was a bit of a "OMG so glad I found this!!" feeling. I pounced on it, and it didn't disappoint. It's a quiet piece that takes place some time after the series ended (I think). Quite lovely, and a great look into Hikaru's person from his father's (and through him, his mother's) point of view.
